SCNAT Press Release 21. July 2020
In recent decades, permafrost in Switzerland has warmed up, numerous signs of degradation have been observed, and most of the rock glaciers have become much faster. These are the conclusions of the Swiss Permafrost Monitoring Network PERMOS after 20 years of observations. PERMOS was established in the year 2000 as the first national permafrost monitoring network worldwide. It is today a recognized part of the international community. PERMOS contains the world's largest data collection on permafrost in mountainous regions, with the longest time series covering more than 30 years.
